Well the song that R. Kelly has out now it's bad. I'm not a big fan of the song but it's better than some of the songs he came out with before. Honestly in my book I don't view R. Kelly as a legend. But hey that's just me. LOL I look at Stevie and Marvin as legends. Now if Trey said something ill of them I would have a problem with it. :) R. Kelly has been in the game longer so I know he has more hits than Trey at this point, but even with that Trey didn't care. I could imagine him sitting there listening to R. Kelly's music saying WTF is this and proceeded to make a song. The thing is Trey is fan that can get in a studio and express himself the way he wants were as other fans will probably voice their dislike with friends, family or the internet.

Yes he will do what he wants and doesn't give a crap about what people think. That is what I love about him.

Tricia AKA @GimmeUnusual's picture

Yeah - I wouldn't diss either of them. Trey is wonderful...I love his music & I'll forever be a fan. I will forever be a fan of R-Kelly's too, but right now his stuff ain't hitting it. I COMPLETELY - 100% agree with Trey - R-Kelly's music does suck right now to me. What I didn't agree with was him publicly saying that about a legend. I personally wouldn't step on another artist's toes, especially if they've been in the game longer than I and they've had as many hits as R-Kelly. But that's just me - Trey can damn well do whatever he wants...& we all know he will! LOL Gonna love him anyway - rather he right or wrong in my eyes.

JesusIsMySavior's picture

I know for sure most of those people wouldn't say any of those things in Trey's face.

JesusIsMySavior's picture

Yep straight up mental. Why can't people respond the way you did. You expressed your dislike but it wasn't in a bad way.

JesusIsMySavior's picture

I saw them. I read your comments. :) It's same ole horrible comments but different people. I swear when it' comes to negative comments about Trey they all make the same comments.

Tricia AKA @GimmeUnusual's picture

Talk about disrespect...Whew...it's TOO MUCH FOR MEEE!!! I said my peace & I'm not going back on there to look at any replies. Those people are crazy!

JesusIsMySavior's picture

Okay I'll check what some of them said. I figured there would be people that didn't care for what he said.

Tricia AKA @GimmeUnusual's picture

OMG!!!! @JesusIsMySavior - this was TOOOO funny. I scanned through some of the comments too & those were funny as hell. Well a lot of them weren't feeling his diss, but it was hilarious to me. I made some comments on it. Thanks for posting this so I could see it.

JesusIsMySavior's picture

@Tricia Here's the link to the song. I believe the song is called Death of Kellz (DOK)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5UR8LUv8Qkc

I love it too. LOL@his stubborn behind. Yes I can relate too because I have my stubborn moments as well. Right he will be fine regardless. Those of us that are fans of his will love him regardless. Will we be disappointed in some of the things he does of course we will but we will still love him.

Yes I still love Michael regardless. He is my first celeb crush. I saw the video too and that sure was R. Kelly. LOL Though I have never been a very big fan of R. Kelly he has come out with a lot of songs that I loved. You mentioned about his remixes, some of his remixes to his own songs are better than the original in my opinion. As for Chris I wasn't a big fan of his music because it catered to a young crowd but there are some songs that he has done that I do like. :) What he did was very disappointing but it didn't change my view of him. But you are right if you are a true fan you never stop because the artist does or says something you don't care for.

Tricia AKA @GimmeUnusual's picture

@JesusIsMySavior - ok...soooo, I didn't even know there was a song. LMAO

What's the name of the song Trey did? I just want to Google it so I'll know.

I agree with you @JesusIsMySavior - we all have opinions and we're not going to always apologize for them. I can respect the fact that Trey stated his & will stand by it. That's a MANLY MAN!!! :-) I love it...his stubborn behind. So am I. Yeah, Trey will be alright no matter what. This happened in 2009 & he is getting bigger & bigger, so this convo doesn't even matter. He ain't going no where & us who love him will stand behind him no matter what. When artists start acting up in other ways...for me I simply separate the talent from the man. When Michael Jackson was accused of molesting little boys. That did not make me any less of a fan. It's his music I love. The same thing for R-Kelly with the 13 yr. old girl. I saw the video & it definitely was him...I was still a fan of his music. He just can't come around my daughter...but I'm still a fan. The Chris Brown thing...still a fan of the music - that never changed. If Trey acts out...I will still be a fan of the music. So yeah, we try to get personal with the people we love, but if I see something personally I don't like...I don't let it affect my views on their talent.

JesusIsMySavior's picture

@Tricia

I'm hoping it isn't any feud either. Yes the song came out the early part of 2009. I started learning a lot about him this year so a lot of things are rather new to me also. I didn't know about this song until this year myself.

JesusIsMySavior's picture

I guess you can look at it as arrogancy. But I guess you can say R. Kelly was being arrogrant with his elephants statement. :)

He just said why should I apologize for my opinion and he is right why should he apologize. It was just an opinion that he expressed. Do you apologize all the time for your opinions that you state here? :) We all have opinions and views on certain things and most of the time we stand behind what we say because we have a strong conviction.

Like I have said countless times I don't think he was wrong in expressing himself. Now could he have used better words to express his dislike of course but he used words that he felt was useful. I don't agree with everything Trey's does but if he wants to express his feelings about someone he looks up to musical that is his business. It evident that he knew he was going to step on a few toes but he didn't and doesn't care. Honestly I don't think he is in that frame of mind were he feels what he did was wrong. The bottom line is that the song didn't hurt his career the way people thought it would and wanted it to. The brother is doing very well for himself and I pray he continues to do well. Rehashing this R.Kelly situation doesn't bring about positive change.

Tricia AKA @GimmeUnusual's picture

@JesusIsMySavior - Oh I don't know if there really is a feud or not. I didn't even know this happened in 2009 - this thread is the first time I'm hearing about this. I've been a fan of Trey, but I've never followed any celebrity to the full extent - where I kept up with everything that was going on with them. I just truly fell in-love with Trey a couple months ago after seeing several of his You Tube videos. Just about everything I learn about him is brand new to me.

Awww...look at @SShorty making friends. LMAO

SShorty's picture

However, I'm glad to see some die hard fans of Trey speaking da real,

being honest when answering the questions and being very unbiased as well

Rolanda did an excellent job

Mrs.Neverson and Tricia both made good points and was honest in their
answers I appreciate it...thank you

SShorty's picture

@JIMS

and that's da arrogance in Trey, right there lol...

I didn't expect him to apologize...I mean, how would that look?
He said what he said...and put it out there

He might wanna stand behind his words because of false pride, but at the end of the
day, it's about RESPECT and Trey knows by now that he was DEAD WRONG...

JesusIsMySavior's picture

You know Trey recently did an interview with Vibe and he said he wasn't apologizing for his opinion about R. Kelly. Trey is just straight forward. Even with the flack that he got for the song he still stands behind his words.

Is there really a feud? I hope not.

My thing is I hope this is one topic that stays in 2010, it should have stayed 2009 but hey.

Tricia AKA @GimmeUnusual's picture

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-vrjN19tRlc

This is R-Kelly's response to Trey (his indirect response). He had some good points in my opinion, but Trey is definitely not hurting due to the feud. One thing I try to remember is that Trey is young. He's very mature for a 25 year old and his maturity level will continue to grow. Looking back later on in life I think he would've realized that he shouldn't have spoken as a "fan" and remembered that he's an artist now & you gotta respect other artists. That's the same problem Kanye had...OF COURSE BEYONCE SHOULD'VE GOT TAYLOR SWIFTS AWARD...but it was the disrespect of another artist that made Kanye look bad. We not back in Tupac & Biggie days where artists are feuding with each other - East coast/ West coast crap. Pull it together & respect the game. I didn't like when R-Kelly said & I'm paraphrasing...you should've called me, but not really. Well alright then... So then what is the point? You wouldn't want him calling you anyway so hell, I guess he might as well have said it publicly. You can't win for losing.

JesusIsMySavior's picture

The thing is R. Kelly isn’t Trey’s musical partner so I don’t look at it as biting the hand that feeds you. R. Kelly only produced one song for Trey not his whole entire album. I honestly not concerned about R. Kelly’s response. However, considering that statement that he did make makes me believe that he was hurt by what Trey said.

JesusIsMySavior's picture

@SShorty

The person does have a valid point, but his statements really didn’t cost him as much as people think.

JesusIsMySavior's picture

OMG you are right Trey is a way better performer. I saw R. Kelly in concert and I sat down the whole time. Very boring.

Rolanda4's picture

The most successful - As of to date R Kelly
The most popular - As of to date Trey..
The better looking - Trey but R. Kelly is sexy for an older man
The most talented - R. Kelly but Trey is also very talented and is still evolving
The best performer - Trey.... R. Kelly's live performance is not that great in my opinion. I buy his music but I will never go to another concert.

Comparing Trey and R. Kelly is not a fair comparison because they're from two different era's. Of course R. Kelly has evolved to be the best in R&B.. I mean he's been in the game for
more than 20 yrs, but I believe that Trey has the ingredients to be just as great by time he's
R. Kelly's age. Now.... that NeYo is the one to be keeping up with right now not R. Kelly..

As far as the comments Trey made regarding R. Kelly's album.. I believe Trey spoke from a fan's prospective (cuz I was disappointed as well), but I don't think it was the right thing to do mainly because they have worked together in the past. If you don't have something nice to say about your mentors work, keep it to yourself especially if they're your personal thoughts as a fan. I don't think Trey should have shared his thoughts with the media.. But hindsight is 20/20 and we live and learn..

Tricia AKA @GimmeUnusual's picture

I guess I should've proofread, but like I said...I'm at work. I meant Trey is newer in the game & Trey is making a name for himself. LOL

Tricia AKA @GimmeUnusual's picture

This is a very interesting topic. I wish I could look at the You Tube videos, but You Tube is blocked on my work computer - I'll look at it when I get home tonight. And you need to stop calling people Fanatics - I will no longer embrace that name unless you want to be called BiPolar again. First & foremost, I am a fan of R-Kelly. I've loved him from the very beginning. Who's most popular - R-Kelly hands down.
Who's most successful - R-Kelly hands down.
Who's better looking - Trey Songz
Who's most talented - I think R-Kelly's work from all these years shows that he's the most talented. I used to say...give me a whole album with my remix kings & I'll be in heaven: T-Pain, R-Kelly & Lil' Wayne.

Nonetheless, Trey is making a name for him & if he keeps up at this rate, he'll have a similar status as R-Kelly. He's never in the game; therefore, it'll take him longer to get there. Plus, he needs to crossover into a broader range of fans.

I don't know the details of their feud...I've heard Trey make some unnecessary comments. I love Trey, but despite what you think @SShorty - I won't back him when I think he's wrong. R-Kelly may not be making music like he used to, but he still paved the way for other artists. He's a legend and he should be respected no matter what. I agree with the listener you quoted 100%. Trey should've never said those things. Sometimes we have to bite our tongue, especially when we're in the spotlight trying to make it.

HIs-LastTime's picture

I can agree with what Ginuwine said as well,
and I dont feel as though dissing someone that
produced something for you is "tasteful" either. (its like biting the hand that fed you)
I do believe that Trey has a lot longer in the industry to go, and has the potential to be
as great as R.Kelly one day, But NOBODY can take his place as far a history wise, and as far as doing what he did musically.

@SShorty your right about Trey, sounding like R.Kelly. When I listened to Trey's Trapped in the Closet, There were more parts sounding like R.Kelly, than he was sounding like himself.

Keep in mind when you are new in the game, in order to be the best, you have to beat the best, so he probably felt as if he wanted to make a name for himself. AS G did admit, He is backing it up. But only time will tell, (now until the end of his career) if he accomplished as much as R.Kelly

I mean its like every body comparing Chris Brown, and NeYo to Michael Jackson. As much as some love Chris, and NeYo, they can only imitate. Ppl love Chris Brown because he is "whats happening NOW", he will never and COULD never take MJ's position

SShorty's picture

And for all who did not hear R. Kelly's response, click da link below

http://missjia.com/r-kelly-goes-in-on-trey-songz.html

I suggest da Fanatics have a listen too...
so it can help them get in touch with reality lol

I thought R. Kelly's response was superb lol...and he handled the whole Trey Songz
diss very well...

After listening to the two sides, the conclusion of the matter is:

sorry Trey, but R.Kelly gets my vote on dis one...
I sincerely hope the incident was a "learning lesson" for you...

SShorty's picture

I think this listener summed up the argument well...

Advance says April 13th, 2010 at 1:17 am

"I think Trey should have voice his opinions to R. Kelly behind closed doors. Once it is in the media you can’t say how you meant it, it becomes how they receive it. Our generation is missing something call respect. If R Kelly is not doing music the way you think he should be doing music, Trey should be that artist he feels R. Kelly is not.

Trey is on a lot of Auto-Tunes tracks as well (Mix Tapes). And a lot of people felt Trey first two albums was flops…but he does not want to comment on that in interviews. You would think that artists that have all this “success” would be above acting like little boys. No matter what R-Kelly past was he was still be a great musician.

I like R. Kelly video response on youtube(skeetv) in response. Trey should not have to explain why he said what he said…it has already being said. Now he is on the radio and tv saying it is not a diss(It is not what you say but how you say it-common sense 101). I just hope that this not the end of Trey’s career.

People fell to realize that R Kelly is mainstream…Trey is still R&B only…not pop or alternative…R Kelly is because he writes for a lot of artists in those genres. I think Trey did not know how much gas he pour out until he lit the match. People are saying Trey can say what he wants…true…but some times words can be costly. Trey just focus on your career and R. Kelly the same. If this becomes into a major beef I will not buy another album from R or Trey. But R. Kelly response won me over….Sorry Trey, maybe this will be a learning lesson for you"

JesusIsMySavior's picture

In all honesty I think Trey was just was bold enough to say something that others were afraid to . You may look at it as not being tasteful but others may. Of course there will be a sizable amount of people who won't favor what Trey did mainly because it looks like a new comer dissing a dude that came out before. I truly feel R. Kelly is a very talented dude but I was never into him like others. I did purchase some of his earlier works but not anything recent. Something was a little too perverted about his music. I have no problem listen to music about sex but it was the manner in which he did his songs that made me want to throw up.

SShorty's picture

*sp "musical" in my previous reply

After I found out that the Trey Songz song "Grub On" was produced by R.Kelly
and how two years after he did "Death of autotune Kellz"

I must reiterate that R.Kelly MUST be respected as one of the best in RnB/Soul music
and as someone who paved the way for artists such as Trey Songz and others...

I've listened to what Trey had to say as to his reasons why and read all the comments
people left over at RealTalkNY (and while you had some people saying that Trey is "way
better than Kelly" and "old", most of them were not in favor of Trey)

the conclusion of the matter is: when Trey made his song (Imma call it "song"
because he said it weren't a diss, but it really was though lol), regardless of his
reasons, it was NOT very tasteful...he could have handled it another way

SShorty's picture

R.Kelly may not be popular right now or making the music as he once was

personal tragedy has struck him and no doubt affected him
not only on an emotional level but on a muscial level too;

but all the same, he must be respected as one of the best in RnB/Soul music
and as someone who paved the way for artist such as Jeremih,
Bobby Valentino and yes Trey Songz...
