Lol when did doing mixtapes become the key ingredient for RnB artists?

Yes I discounted the mixtapes...because I'm dealing with two singers and their albums
Soundscan and RIAA deals with artists and their ALBUMS (and singles)...

RAPPERS have and put out mixtapes...singers do mixtapes on the side lol

SShorty's picture

@Rolanda

just because an artist may not have the numbers regarding album sales doesn't mean that
they aren't up there or can't compete with another artist...

That's da same thing people said of Trey...that he wasn't up there with Chris Brown

Lloyd is simply the "crouching tiger hidden dragon"...the "Quiet Storm" of RnB

but I agree that Lloyd hasn't had his big "Moment" yet, he's had mini ones
and the fact that Irv Gotti's label went through that difficulty no doubt played a factor in the acceleration of Lloyd's career, but 'preciate your response though...

HIs-LastTime's picture

Love this statement... "He's a BEAST.. the Lil Wayne of R&B.. "

Tricia AKA @GimmeUnusual's picture

@His-LastTime...thank you for posting the real list. I knew it was way more than what was posted.

You are right @Rolanda4 - Trey is very diverse between the 2 of them. I look forward to Lloyd being established with Young Money & doing big thangs. For me he completely made "Bedrock" the shit it is.

Rolanda4's picture

@SShorty - Ohh.. I forgot to mention Trey's movie soundtracks and R&B features.. He's been on so many projects.. I mean who hasn't he worked with.. He's a BEAST.. the Lil Wayne of R&B.. Yes.. I agree that Lloyd is talented but he's not up there with Trey.. not yet..

Rolanda4's picture

@SShorty - In my opinion the mixtapes are important because they illustrate the diversity between the two artists.. And personally I find Trey more diverse as an artist than Lloyd.. But, then I can't honestly say I'm up on Lloyd catalog like I'm with Trey's but.. I think that Lloyd's unfortunate label issues was his greatest and true downfall.. Like..right when Lloyd was coming up Gotti's label went to hell.. I felt so bad for him and Ashanti.. But I think now that's he's found a stable home, he will be making big strides to regain his place in the R&B game.. I don't think Lloyd has had his "Moment" yet, but when he does it will be amazing.

LOL@where Trey REALLY looks like he's having sex w/ the girls in his videos or it's at least definitely going down afterward.

Tricia AKA @GimmeUnusual's picture

Exposure is what differentiates them. They both have 4 albums (w/ Lloyd's 4th one coming out in December). And the fact is, you can't dismiss Trey's mixtapes. That has helped put him on the map. Lloyd is fantastic - I give him that. I am truly a fan of his...his vocal talent in my opinion may be even slightly better than Trey's. However, his writing ability pales in comparison to Trey. Neither one can really dance - Lloyd just decides to be choreographed, but it's unnatural in my opinion when you look at him versus Chris Brown, Usher, Ne-Yo, Omarion, even Ginuwine - these men can really dance. If Trey decided to hire a choreographer, he could dance a little bit too, but he has few fast songs that really require that. Back to the writing, Lloyd hasn't written many songs for his albums. It simply takes for Lloyd to be marketed properly & him & Trey would be neck in neck. Nonetheless, I don't think Lloyd can match Trey's written ability nor his sex appeal. Lloyd is sexy but he is missing the swagger/ego to effectively pull it off. He looked slightly uncomfortable in Lay it Down. He fumbled trying to rub that girl's leg...wasn't believable where Trey REALLY looks like he's having sex w/ the girls in his videos or it's at least definitely going down afterward.

JesusIsMySavior's picture

Actually Trey has a lot more than you listed.

This is a catalog of Trey's:

Cutty Buddy (Freestyle)

Easy On Ourselves
Let's Chill
Rockin' That Thang (Freestyle)

As you can plainly see, Lloyd has the longer of the two...

@Rolanda

discounting Trey's mixtapes, and focusing on albums, what makes Lloyd in your opinion
not up there with Trey considering that they're both roughly on the same amount of
albums and singing similar type songs, aimed at a particular demographic?

Rolanda4's picture

Lloyd has had some good songs but I don't think he's up there with Trey. What I mean by that is.. Trey's musical catalog (albums mixtapes remixes) is just so much larger than Lloyd's. But, I do agree that Lloyd has great musical talent.. I love his music.. He just needs more songs and exposure.. :)

JesusIsMySavior's picture

@Sshorty:

Yes it did give him something extra. Yes his long hair complemented his facial features. Well change can be a good thing. The short cut makes Lloyd look more mature. I haven’t seen the Lay It Down video yet. Yes it was wonderful thing that he gave his hair to charity.

I think Trey is an all around good guy as well.

HIs-LastTime's picture

(cont) It was brought to my attention that LLoyds song Hazel, is actually about smoking "Purple Haze", listen to the words and tell me if you agree, Its kind of on the lines of Tupac, "Me and my girlfriend" where he was really rapping about his gun,

HIs-LastTime's picture

LLoyd: ppl DO need to step it up on the promotion part of things. He is a very handsome man I must say. I LOVED his hair, and preferred him with it.

I loved the ENTIRE "lessons in love, and Street Love" Album. Like Trey's Albums, you can definately put them on and listen to the whole thing.

My favorite song from Street Love would have to be a tie between "Steet Love & One For Me" I dont know WTF is wrong with Lloyd's promotions, but he definately could be bigger than what he is. When I was listening to his music, i was like "he needs more videos" (I been saying that for a while)

Oh, I also LOVE the song Hazel,

SShorty's picture

Overall, Trey vs Lloyd,

YES! I definitely think Lloyd is more than capable of giving Trey a run for his money

Lloyd's promotion team need to step it up a notch and release a couple more singles.

Also when last have I seen Lloyd on 106&Park? not very recently. Lloyd needs to do a
few more guest appearances on morning TV and other music programs...he needs to
remain visible like what Trey is doing...

but it's so sweet that he gave his hair to charity...

From his music, Lloyd strike me as an all rounder very nice guy...a gentleman
and not a wham bam thank you ma'am like Trey lol

SShorty's picture

@Tricia

I'm listening to "Hazel" right now...

@JIMS

yes I think the long hair did something extra for Lloyd. Although his new-do is cute
I think because of the look he has, the long hair went right along with it, but I guess like
Trey, he felt it was time for a change...

notice with his new video "Lay It Down" he's decided to step over into the mature
playing field...and it's so sweet that he gave his hair to charity.

JesusIsMySavior's picture

You know as much as I love men with their hair short I do like Lloyd with hair.

Tricia AKA @GimmeUnusual's picture

I liked him better with his hair, but that's sweet that he gave it to charity.
@Bipolar...I love "Hazel". I also love "Player's Prayer"...it's so honest. Trey needs to sing one of those too. LMAO

JesusIsMySavior's picture

What I love is that he gave his hair to charity.

SShorty's picture

What about the song "Hazel" from the Street Love album?

Do you like it? That's one of the songs in rotation in my music player...

I find that song simple but so sweet and romantic; and at the same time sad and
serenading when an artist can evoke those kind of emotions from you by listening
to their voice & music then you just know they're good and talented...

p.s. Yes Lloyd's got beautiful hair...
(he can give me a run for my money in that department lol), but in his latest video
did you see? he's cut the hair and gone for the grown mature look...

JesusIsMySavior's picture

Oh I like "I want you"

JesusIsMySavior's picture

I don’t find him attractive, but he did have beautiful hair. But looks don’t matter when I like an artist. The Girl All Around The World is pretty good.

SShorty's picture

@JesusIsMySavior

do you mean his looks or his voice don't do it for you?

And what were the songs that you liked?

JesusIsMySavior's picture

Well he doesn’t do it for me. I have only liked a handful of songs he has come out with.
