“Trey…you hang up first.”
“No. I don’t want to hang up on you.”
Trey was on the phone with Noel for the 5th time that week. He loved chatting on the phone with her, she was the easiest person to talk to.
“Okay, well since you won’t hang up, why don’t we just stay on the phone a little longer?”
“Sounds good. So Noel, when are you gonna let me take you out?”
“I told you, when I get to know you better.”
“You know almost everything about me. What you scared for?”
“I don’t know. I guess the unknown. I’m scared of what you’re NOT telling me. Just because to say you’re this and that, doesn’t make it true. You could be bullshitting me.”
“Never that Noel. My life is an open book.”
“I know. And that’s what scares me. I heard about your relationship with Vanessa. It was all over the blogs. The messy ass breakup and everything.”
Trey clinched his jaw. He knew it would be a matter of time before Noel brought “her” up.
The messy breakup Noel was referring to happened about a year ago. Trey and Vanessa had got into a very public argument when he found out Vanessa was messing around on him.
The paps and TMZ caught all of it on tape. It was bad, really bad.
“I don’t want to dwell on the past Noel.”
“And I don’t want to just be the next model on your arm. I’m just getting started, I don‘t want to seem like I’m hanging on to you for success.”
“I understand that. And I won’t let that happen Noel.”
“You can’t guarantee that Trey.”
“I know. But I’ll try my hardest. Just one night, one date. Please?” ?
Trey heard Noel sigh over the phone.
“Okay. ONE date Trey. We’ll see how it goes.”
Trey smiled over the phone. He was intent on not disappointing her.
‘How does this Friday sound? Around 8”
“Sounds great Trey.”
Friday came quicker than expected. Trey was shuffling through his closet trying to find something to wear.
Trey was trying on a plaid shirt before his phone started buzzing. It was his best friend Fynch from Virginia. Every time he talked to Fynch he got homesick.
“Yo Fynch…wassup man?”
“Ain’t shit wassup wit you ?”
“Getting dressed…I got a date in a few.”
“Oh well excuse me! Don’t let me interrupt.”
“Nigga shut up. How’s the fam?”
“Good man everybody good. Who you goin on a date wit?”
“Nigga I know that! Who is this girl? She betta not be another model chick.”
“No…not really. She’s new to the business ,she’s just getting started.”
“And? She fuckin you for photo’s man?”
“No! Hell no. I asked her out. She not like the rest of them girls Fynch. She’s different.”
“Yea, yea, yea nigga. You said the same thing about Vanessa, and look how that shit turned out.”
“I know. But I’m sure about this one Fynch.”
“Aight man. I ain’t gonna preach, but as ya friend imma tell you. Be careful with this girl Trey. You a world famous photographer, you got money, done traveled the world and shit. Don’t let these women suck you dry man.”
“I won’t. Thanks for looking out.”
“You know I gots to do it.”
“Aight…I gotta go man. Talk to you later.”
Trey hung up with Fynch, and picked out a outfit.
Trey threw on a black dress shirt with a dark grey vest and matching slacks. He sprayed on some Gucci cologne and brushed his hair.
“Looking good Tremaine.” He said to himself in the mirror.
Trey grabbed his keys and went out the door.
?15 minutes later, he was knocking on Noel's door. Trey waited nervously with a dozen of White Lilies in his hand.
Noel came to the door and Trey's mouth dropped open.
Noel stood tall in 6 inch black heels, black sequined one shoulder dress and silver hoops. Her hair was long and wavy, her smokey eye makeup and nude lips sealed the look perfectly.
"Damn." Was all Trey could muster. "Shit, I'm sorry."
"It's fine." Noel giggled. "White Lilies! those are my favorite. How did you know?"
"I pay attention. You ready?"
"Yes. I am."
Trey grabbed Noel's hand and led her to his Black Phantom. Dinner and wine was all Trey had planned for that night.
But fate had other plans for him.
