    December 29, 2010

Trey smiled as he breathed in the fresh air the surrounded him.

Trey had just landed in Virginia. Home.

    “Wow…its really pretty here.”

Noel grabbed Trey’s hand as they walked towards the black jeep that waited for them.

Trey was ecstatic to be home, and having Noel with him was the icing on the cake.

    “Babe, you ready?”

    “I don’t know Trey…Do I look okay?”

“Yes you look just fine. My mumma knows your coming.”

    “She does? Oh God.”

Trey chuckled at Noel’s nervousness. “You’re gonna be fine.”

    “I sure hope so.”

Trey spent most of the car ride to his mother’s showing Noel places where he went to school, hung out with friends (whom she would be meeting later), even where he had his first kiss.

Noel sat in awe. Virginia had never been a city she was excited to visit, but Trey showed her the beauty of his small town. She saw how his eyes lit up when they touched certain places. She was both happy and proud to be there with him.

Trey grabbed Noel’s hand. ‘I’m really happy that you’re here with me baby.”

    “Me too.”

‘No. Really. You don’t know how much this means to me.”

Noel smiled, though on the inside she felt like shit. She knew what she was REALLY here for, and that was work.

Getting the inside scoop on where Trey grew up and his family was gold. She needed this.

“Looks like we’re here baby. My mumma’s. You ready?”

    ‘Yes. I’m ready.’

“Just relax Noel, and be yourself, like you do with me.”

“Okay. Got it. How’s my hair?”

“Perfect.” Trey kissed Noel’s forehead. “Now lets go.”

    ?

Noel’s heard sped up and she held Trey’s hand. From the distance she could hear people chattering in country accent’s, she could smell the good food being prepared as well. She was so scared, scared that her real intentions would shine through.

Trey smiled before opening the large door.

“Is that Tremaine?” Noel heard someone ask in the distance.

    “Yea it’s me!”

In a flash Noel saw people run around the corner and embrace Trey in a large group hug.

Noel smiled from ear to ear as she watched Trey interact with the people he loved and trusted most.

Noel kept looking out for any one who might resemble his mother. She didn’t see anyone.

But there was this one younger looking woman who had her arms around his waist tightly. She wondered who she was.

    Trey turned to face her.

‘Noel, baby…this is my mumma. Mumma meet Noel.”

Noel raised an eyebrow. There was no way in HELL that woman could be his mother.

    “This...is your mother Trey?”

“Yes. It’s me in the flesh.” Trey mother reached out her hand.

“Oh I’m sorry, it’s just that you look so young.”

“Well thank you Noel. Trey I think I like her already.”

Trey laughed and pulled her into a tight hug. ‘I missed you mumma.”

‘I missed you too son. Now let me go and finish dinner. Show Noel around okay. Nice meeting you sweetheart.”

    “Same to you Ms.Tucker.”

Trey smiled and pulled Noel into a kiss. “Told you she would like you.”

    “Yes. You did.”

“Come on, let me introduce you to the fam.”

Noel spent the next hour meeting Trey’s cousins, aunts ,uncles, and last but not least Grandma Rose. She was so sweet and welcoming, unlike anyone in Noel’s family.

Noel felt like she was home. Which made her feel even worse about what she was doing.

“So…how you feeling? Everyone loves you.”

    “I know. I wasn’t expecting that.”

    “Why not?”

“I don’t know. My family isn’t like that.”

“Well, I love you. They love you. That’s all that matters right now.’

    “You love me Trey?”

    “Yes. I’ve told you that.”

Noel bit her bottom lip. “Trey…there’s something that I need to tell you….”

    “Trey! Noel! Dinner is ready!”

Trey grabbed Noel’s hand. “Come on let’s get some grub”

Noel sat and absorbed everything about Trey’s family. From the way they said a prayer before they ate, to the conversations they had over dinner.

They shared a lot about Trey’s childhood with her; pictures and the stories that went along with them.

Noel learned so much about Trey in one sitting. She learned he was an Army brat, a ladies man that went to over ten proms during his High school years, and that he had a barber’ license.

There were so many dimensions to Trey, and Noel had so much material to write about.

Once the dinner was over, Trey’s mother pulled Noel to the side to have a talk with her. Noel was a nervous wreck.

What could Trey’s mother want with her?

“Noel…you know Trey loves you very much. That’s why you’re here.”

    “You really think so?”

“He’s my son. I know. I know when Trey is in love. He wouldn’t have brought you here if he wasn’t.”

“Wow. I learned so much about him today.”

“Yes. Yes you did. But…I really need to have this talk wit you Noel. See, you are not the first model my son has dated.”

“That I know. I heard about him and Vanessa.”

“Exactly. Trey had such a hard time dealing with that break-up. PLEASE do not put my son through that again. That is all I ask of you.”

Noel nodded her head slowly. “I won’t. I cannot promise that I’ll be the perfect woman, but I wouldn’t hurt Trey.”

‘Good. Thank you. Take care of my son. He’s means the world to me. I had him when I was 17 years old, he’s like my best friend.”

Noel smiled despite the fact she knew she was lying to Trey’s mother right to her face.

Noel hugged Trey’s mother and walked outside to join Trey in their jeep.

“What did you and my mumma talk about?”

    “None of your business Tremaine.”

    “Oh okay…I see.”

    “Good.”

“So…how did you like my family?”

“They seemed really nice. Fun people.”

    “Glad you enjoyed yourself.”

“I did. Thanks for bringing me here.”

    “Thanks for coming with me.”

    “Why wouldn’t I?”

    “I don’t know. You could’ve been uncomfortable.”

“I’m not. You are blessed to have such a loving family. I wish I had that Trey.”

“Speaking of that…when will I meet them?”

    “I told you Trey. Never.”

    “Why Noel?”

“Because, they are not worth meeting.”

“Tell me why though? Are you ashamed of them, afraid they wont like me? Come on you’ve got to tell me something Noel.”

“I don’t want to talk about them Trey. AT ALL. So drop it.”

Trey was surprised by Noel’s tone. “Okay. I’ll drop it.”

Ten minutes later they arrived at Trey’s hotel. Noel remained silent, which worried Trey. She seemed to be in deep thought about something.

    “Noel…you alright?”

    “Yea.”

“You don’t seem fine. Talk to me.”

    “Nothing Trey. It’s nothing.”

“You’re saying that…but your attitude says different.”

“I told you. I’m fine Trey.”

“Okay. You know what Noel, I’m just gonna leave you alone.”

    “Trey...don’t get angry with me…”

“Then don’t cop an attitude when I ask you if you’re alright!”

“I didn’t Trey. I just have a lot on my mind okay.”

“Look. I’m gonna hop in the shower. I’m meeting up with my boys later.”

    “Okay.”

Without another word Trey went into the bathroom locking the door behind him.

Noel opened her laptop and began to write notes about her day with Trey. Then she made a phone call to Daniel.

    “Hello Noel. Any new juice?”

    “I met his family today.”

    “Really?! Oh that’s goood!”

“Yea. They were nice people. Had a good time.”

    “Good. Send me those notes.”

    “I’m on it.”

As soon as Noel hung up, Trey emerged from the bathroom still wet with a white towel wrapped around his waist.

Trey looked at Noel with tight eyes. “Noel…I don’t like to fight with you. I love you.”

    “Trey…”

“Just hear me out. I love you, you mean the world to me. But I don’t need you being sneaky and hiding things from me. I need you to be honest.”

    “I am Trey.”

“You sure? Please don't hide things from me Noel. I can’t take it.”

“I know Trey. And I’m sorry. And I promise, I have been nothing but honest with you. I love you too Trey and I would never try to hurt you.”

Trey smiled. “ Good. I love you baby. Gimme a kiss.”

Noel held Trey’s face as she kissed him deeply.
