Hello my fellow Angels!
I'm writing to you because I have something I would like to share with y'all from my heart. If I get a little preachy I apologize, but I'm warning you now....I might get a little preachy. lol
It appears to me that some of us Angels and fans alike have lost sight of ourselves and what we are here to do….support Trey.
In every Trey group I’ve ever been a part of, TSMB, TTU, and now Trey’s Angels, there has always been infighting. Part of it is because it’s a group a women and let’s be honest, we can be extremely catty. The other part of it comes from an elitist attitude that members begin to develop. “Oh I’m a member of TSMB, I’m a bigger fan than his other fans. Oh, I’m an Angel so I have more rights to Trey than his other fans. I’ve been a fan since such and such date you not a real fan.” That’s the wrong attitude to have. This sense of entitlement has got to go y’all. It’s counterproductive.
Let me say this plainly. THIS IS NOT ABOUT YOU!!!! When people start being in it for themselves, that’s when the corruption starts to slip in. The whole point of this is to support Trey, to edify him, to lift him up, to help him get the shine he so greatly deserves. The point of this is to support good music, to preserve true R&B, to bring back artistry, to make sure we have something quality for ourselves and to offer the next generation. That sounds super deep but it’s so true. The record companies are going to give us what they think we want. We have to show them that we want better. THAT should be what we’re here for, not a follow. We should be excited when people discover Trey’s music, not bash them for being tardy for the party. Your JOB, your PURPOSE as an OG Trey Songz fan should be to recruit new fans. This movement we’ve got going on is fueled by NEW blood. We need to be vampires about ours. (lol)
Instead of being pure at heart about it, I see people with that “look at me” spirit. That’s what starts all the hating. If people start thinking of this as a tool to get to Trey of course there’s going to hate. How can you congratulate people you deem competition? Additionally, It is not for any of us to judge how another fan shows love to Trey. Who are you? If someone wants to get a tattoo, so let them do. It’s not my cup of tea, but if that’s yours more power to you. If someone wants to make a sign, or t-shirt or youtube video, SO. LET. THEM. DO. On the flip side of the coin, if someone doesn’t change their twiticon don’t try to make them feel like less of a fan, they could be employing other devices of promotion. There are multiple means to our common end. Don’t be salty cuz somebody didn’t go down the same road you chose. The bottom line is: how fans want to show love to Trey is between them and Trey. NOT YOU!
All this stuff is wonderful; Trey following us, the meet and greets with him, priority seating options for his shows, all of that. It’s great, I appreciate it, it makes me happy inside and I'm grateful for the opportuinity, but that is NOT what I’m here for. It’s an added bonus. It’s extra. It’s like dessert! But it seems like some of us only want the dessert and haven’t touched our veggies. We need to get healthy y'all. Some of us are WAAAAYYYYY too into ourselves walkin round with our noses in the air and our chests puffed up wanting to be notice for the wrong reasons. Those ulterior motives are not cute. You should want Trey to know that you’re TSMB or TTU or an Angel because you know off the bat that he knows that you are there for him, you go ham, hard in the paint and all that for him. He automatically knows how much you love him when he sees those shirts and dog tags or hears those names. I imagine that makes him feel really good. You should want him to know so he feels the love THAT much more. You should NOT want him to know that you’re an Angel cuz you think that means you’re entitled to something. That’s wack and self-serving. Cut it out.
Be authentic y’all.
So in summation of everything I've just said, I leave y'all with this, my personal Angel Promise:
As an Angel, I promise to support and promote the man and brand that is Trey Songz, to embrace kindred fans of old and to welcome and recruit the new. Furthermore, I promise to do these things in earnest, being of a pure heart, without malice, expectations or demands, remembering always that it is not about glorifying myself but about advancing the music.
P.S. I should add that the "some of us" that I have referred to is a small group and does not reflect ANY of the organizations named above as a whole. For the rest of us, this letter is to ensure we don't end up like "some of us".
