Entry 78
We got to this house about two miles away from the hotel. It was a pretty nice neighborhood. The homes there were upscale and most were surrounded by huge fences mounted by surveillance cameras. The dogs I heard barking were the happy yips of little dogs who got carried around in handbags all day, not the ferocious hungry growls of pit bulls.
Chrissy had sent texts to Eric and Charles, telling them where we were going. We bumped into Kenny's brother in the lobby of the hotel and he's the one who drove us, along with Trey's best friend and his cousin.
We followed the taxi that Trey and Kelli took in as close proximity as we could without being noticed.
As we passed the diner we'd been at, we could see the guys standing out side. Charles gave us a small salute as we passed by. Mel didn't notice us because he was too busy on his phone. Chrissy nudged me and told me that she thought he might be talking to Kelli. I peered over the front seats and I thought I could see her on her phone. I saw Trey with his arm around Kelli. He said something to her and Kelli shrugged and hung up her phone.
His arm never left her shoulder, until their taxi stopped and they got out. Trey paid for the ride.
Kelli was oblivious to our arrival as she hastily walked up to the house. Trey, however, seemed to be looking for us. He watched as the cab drove away and our car crept slowly into the driveway. Our eyes locked and Trey put his finger to his lips. He pointed to the house and began to walk towards it. He waved behind his back as if to tell us not to come up there just yet.
We waited a few minutes after they went in the house, then we began to walk around the grounds. Nobody else seemed to be home so we felt free to look around. I went up to the house to try and see what Kelli and Trey were doing. I wasn't tall enough to see into the windows. Neither was Chrissy.
Kenny's brother decided to go and look around in the back of the house. Trey's cousin and best friend went with him.

"So where is Mel, now?" Trey asked.
"He's at the diner - oh shit! I have to go. I have to do something!" Kelli backed away from Trey.
Trey caught her hand and took a step towards her. He fixed an intense gaze on her.
"Don't run off now, baby."
"I have to..." Kelli said. She didn't try hard to pull away from Trey. He took another step closer.
Kelli's whole face is turned upwards. She looks as if she's going to kiss Trey right there! My blood is beginning to boil because it looks as if he's going to kiss her too.
Ok, I'm in the backseat of a rental, trying not to be seen. I'm only writing to keep my cool. Things almost got pretty intense back at the hotel. Chrissy had to really hold me back. I was going to scratch Kelli's eyes out for touching my man the way she did.
I had to watch as Trey pulled her back to him. He held her close and put his lips to her forehead. He was saying something that I couldn't hear.
Chrissy had one tight grip around me with one arm, and her hand placed over my mouth. She pulled me away from the doorway, just as Kelli and Trey walked by us.
"Shh!" Chrissy hissed.
I watched as Trey walked right out of the room with Kelli as if I didn't exist. He even had his arm around her.
When Chrissy let me go she quickly apologized to me, then she explained her actions.
"You know Trey had to do what he had to do so that she could lead him to Kenny. I think his technique is smooth." She told me.
I was stunned speechless at the moment. She kind of chuckled and told me that I'd see her point later.
I saw her point at that moment, but damn, I'm only human. Ok, so CoCo was right. I'm obsessed with Trey. I get insanely blind and jealous when it comes to him. And I almost blew his chance to find Kenny.
Chrissy told me that she wanted to follow them in case Trey needed back up. At first I didn't want to go because I felt like I may end up screwing everything up.
"No you won't. I'll make sure you won't." She grinned. "Come on, we gotta go."

Trying to hear what they're saying through the wall isn't quite getting it. I need to move closer to the door.
Now I can see them as well as hear them. Kelli's telling Trey about the first time her husband saw Kenny. She said that he just knew that Kenny would pound him into the floor if he tried to step to Trey.
"When you stepped to him that night, you had him shook. He never told me so, but I know you did. We would be arguing about something, then all of a sudden, he'd hear you either opening your door, or you'd be in your room next to ours, and he'd stop yelling. He'd stand there as if he was waiting for you to be out of earshot or something. Then he'd either start to talk low, or he'd just drop the argument all together."
Trey asked her if she was alright now that she's with Mel. She says that she's happier than she used to be, but if she could choose...
By the way she let the rest of her sentence trail off, I know who she wishes she could choose. I can see her looking up into Trey's eyes like she's in some fairytale or something.
Nuh-uh. Not tonight, Princess Jasmine!
Chrissy held my arm so that I couldn't go barging in there. She has a point. We need to let her tell Trey what she knows. Now it's my turn to pout. I wonder how far this chick is willing to go before she tells Trey what we need to know.
Fortunately, Trey just wants to cut to the chase. He asked her if Mel mentioned anything to her about the day Kenny went missing.
Kelli hesitated, then she exhaled. She says that Mel didn't tell her anything directly, but she overheard him and Jasmine talking about somebody that they're trying to avoid, or get away from. She said that Mel was saying that they may have to tie him up.
"When I asked him who they were talking about, he just told me that he's watching this guy's dog or something. I heard Jasmine say something about getting some drugs from somewhere and that started this big argument. I swear, that girl is such a druggie." Kelli said.

I walked over to him and we hugged each other. His embrace was strong and I hugged him back with all of my might. We didn't speak, but no words were necessary. I know how he feels and he knows how I feel. I just stood there letting the seconds tick away. I almost forgot all about Kelli.
I asked Trey if he was up for some company. He didn't really feel like it, but after I explained why I'd brought her here in the first place, he relented. I went to get Kelli and I could see the excitement written all over her face.
Trey greeted her with a warm hug and I watched her melt against him. She began to speak to him in a rapid pace as if she was trying to get out everything she ever wanted to tell him in that one moment.
Then in an instant, she began to cry. She mumbled through her tears and certain words came out in little squeals. Trey looked over her head at me. I shrugged because I didn't know why she was crying, and I couldn't understand a damn thing she was saying.
Trey gave her another tight squeeze before he told her to calm down. I gave her a tissue. As she dabbed her face, I gestured to Trey that I would be in the next room. He mouthed the word, "Why?"
I tried to gesture out the words, "So she can tell you about Kenny." Trey almost laughed as I made big balloon arms at my sides to indicate Kenny's build. It was good to see his gorgeous smile. I hoped he'd be able to coax something out of her.
Ordinarily, I'd be in there watching that girl like a hawk, but now more than ever, I want her to feel really comfortable with Trey. I want him to charm that information she's holding right out of her pouty little mouth.
I'm right here in the next room and Chrissy is here too. She texting Eric and Charles. She told me that the guys are still at the diner with Mel.
"He's not talking. He just wants to hurry up and leave the diner."
"They have to stall him some more." I said. Chrissy continues to text while I sit here writing.
I can hear Kelli laughing.

"Answer your phone, yo." Eric said to Mel. Mel ignored the ringing phone.
The waitress returned with the food. It looked as good as it smelled. A momentary distraction was made as Charles showed his delight in the huge steak on his plate. Eric dug right into his.
I told Eric to order the same thing for Trey and myself. Chrissy said the same thing. I noticed that Kelli had stepped closer to the table. Mel told her to come closer to him. Kelli leaned over the table and he whispered something to her. He rubbed her neck, then placed a tender kiss on her ear.
Nah, don't start gettin all lovey dovey and tellin secrets and shit." Eric grinned.
"Eatcha food." He said to Mel.
"Nah, that's for the dog. Hurry up, baby. He might start chewing on the furniture soon." Mel said.
Kelli picked up the bag and practically ran out of the diner. I called after her, but she kept going.
"Leave her alone, Essence." Mel said to me.
"Like hell!" I said as I ran after her.
Outside, Kelli was trying to hail a cab the way we do in New York. I went up to her and explained that Trey was at the hotel a few blocks from there.
"After you see him, I'll get him to drive you to your friend's house." It was a long shot, but I had to try something. I didn't want her to get away when we were so close to finding Kenny. At least that's how I was feeling at the time.
Kelli looked back at the diner. The look on her face said that she was thinking it over.
"Ok. I'll go see Trey, then I'll go feed the dog by myself." She said.
"Alright." I shrugged as if it didn't matter if she went by herself. I looked at Chrissy who gave me a secret thumbs up. At least we had Kelli for the moment.
When we got back to the room, I told Kelli that I had to make sure that Trey was decent. He was. He was standing out on the balcony. I heard female voices below calling up to him, but he didn't seem to be paying them any attention.
"Trey?" I stood in the doorway of the balcony.
"Come here, Essence." Trey said.

"We have to go feed his pit, then I have some business to take care of." Mel said.
"So just tell us where Kenny is and you can go on about your business." Chrissy said. She had strategically planted herself in front of Kelli. Mel had tried to look around her so that he could see Kelli. It seemed as if Kelli was trying to hide behind Chrissy. She muttered something under her breath and began to bite her already nonexistent fingernails.
"I don't know where Kenny is!" Mel said.
"Then where's Jasmine? I know she knows where he is. Y'all both have something to do with this, everybody knows that." I said.
"Everybody better get off my dick." Mel said.
Immediately, Charles' huge hand was placed on Mel's neck. I could see his fingers tightening on Mel's skin like the rings on a noose.
"Yo, watch ya mouth." Charles said through clenched teeth. He spoke in a low voice, and his eyes were angry.
Mel tried to twist away, but it was useless. Tears formed in his eyes, and I could see that it was hard for him to breathe. Kelli peered from behind Chrissy's back. She gently pleaded with Charles to let go of Mel.
"We don't know where Kenny is." She looked as if she wanted to cry. Charles looked up at her. He must have felt sorry for her because his eyes softened and he let go.
"Baby, are you ok?" She asked him, but she didn't move to go to him. Mel didn't answer her, he just rubbed his neck.
"Y'all dead wrong for this." He stated. Just then, his phone rang. We all looked at him, expecting him to answer it. He didn't. He shot a worried look at Kelli.
"Look, we have to go. Y'all wasting precious time here, fuckin with me. Y'all coulda found him by now. If y'all want, after I finish what I have to do, I'll help y'all search." Mel said.
"Well just tell us what happened after y'all left the hotel. Don't lie and say you wasn't there, cuz the cops have all of y'all on surveillance." Charles said to him.
"Yeah, just point us in the right direction." Eric said.
The phone rang.

His remark made us all look at him with surprise. His smiled had faded and he began to glare at all of us.
"All I meant was that maybe a visit from a friend would do a lot to cheer up Trey." I said.
"After all, he and Kelli are pretty close, right, Kelli?" I said. I held it together while I watched a smirk replace her pout.
"You can say that." She said.
Yeah right, bitch. I hated her self satisfied look, but I pushed the feeling aside. That's when I began to understand how someone could beat her brains out. She's so dingy, she can't even tell when she's being baited. Mel could tell, and he'd had enough of us. He slid over and nudged Kelli.
"Yo, get up." He said.
At that moment, a waitress came over with a brown paper bag. The smell that wafted out of it made my mouth water. She sat the bag down in front of Mel, while Charles and Eric sniffed at it like ravenous wolves. The waitress asked if the rest of us were going to order.
"Nah, we're all just leaving." Mel told her.
"Nah, we're gonna stay, and I'll have whatever my friend right here is having." Charles said.
"One pepper steak and potatoes - roasted, fried or mashed?" The waitress wrote down the order.
While the guys ordered I pulled Kelli out of her seat. Mel tried to follow, but Eric sat in her place.
"Relax, son. We gon have lunch and chill while we try and figure out how we gon get my boy Kenny back, ya heard." Eric said.
"Trey's going to be happy to see you." I told Kelli, who was so oblivious to her man's mood, she didn't even hear him when he called her to come back to the table. She was in la la land because she was going to see Trey.
"Kelli!" Mel's sharp voice finally penetrated Kelli's thoughts and she turned to look at him.
He gestured for her to come back over. We - Chrissy, Kelli and myself - all went back to the table. Mel was explaining to Eric and Charles that he and Kelli were house sitting and that they were in charge of the owner's huge pit bull while he was away.

For once Kelli spoke to me as if she didn't hate my guts. I began to feel as though she knew something about Kenny's disappearance, but of course she wasn't going to say anything at the moment.
"I heard that he's in the hospital. Would it be alright if I visit him?" She asked. Before I could answer her, Mel reached over and grabbed her arm. He did it so abruptly, that Kelli jumped.
Even I was surprised. Mel looked as if he wanted to shake the hell out of her. It took him a few seconds, but he composed himself. He put on a smile and he spoke sweetly to her.
"Kelli, baby. We won't have time to visit Trey. We have some business to take care of, remember?"
Kelli pouted at him. "I just want to see if he's alright. He's my friend."
I watched as Mel struggled to keep his face from revealing his inner feelings. I know that letting Kelli visit Trey was the last thing on earth that Mel wanted to do.
Aside from the fact that anybody can see how much Kelli is into Trey, (and I know that it makes Mel jealous as hell), there was also the unspoken thought in the air that said Mel didn't want Kelli to talk to anyone. He was already starting to show signs that pointed out how he was beginning to control her. It made me wonder how long it would be before he was going upside her head the way her ex used to.
Kelli looked the way she used to look before she broke up with her ex, lost and hopeless. She threw me a look that I took to mean that she wished she was anywhere but there at the moment. It gave me an idea.
"Yeah, Trey has been feeling really down since all of this stuff started happening. You know what I'm talking about, right Kelli?" I said to her.
"Yeah, I mean, it's one thing for him to end up in the hospital, but now his best friend is missing. I mean I wish that there was something that I could do for him."
Hmm, I bet she did.
"Well, maybe there is something you can do for him." I said slyly.
"There ain't nothing she can do for him!" Mel stated bitterly.

I heard her saying that she was trying to be there for him, that's why she'd flown all the way out here.
"But this isn't what I thought I'd be getting myself into. Why don't we just leave him here, and just go back to New York. That way, we can't be blamed if -"
She never got to finish her sentence as I walked right up on them. It was Kelli's surprised face that I was looking at.
"Who are you trying to leave here? And aren't you supposed to be in jail?" I said to the both of them.
"You're so damn nosey. Who the hell do you think you are?" Kelli said to me. Mel reached across the table to quiet her. He looked around at the diners who were nearby, and sort of gave them a nod.
"Be quiet. You don't have to say anything to them." Mel said to Kelli.
"So why don't you do all of the talking. Slide over, duke." Charles said as he sat down next to Mel in the booth.
Reluctantly, Mel slid over. I could tell that he was angry, but he seemed to know that he was in a no win situation.
"What are you doing out of jail, and where is your psycho cousin?" I demanded.
Mel chuckled a little bit. He asked me if I was some kind of private investigator, and if I am, shouldn't I be out looking for clues to help find Kenny.
"Oh, I'm talking to the right person now. You need to tell us what happened to Kenny." I said.
"Essence, I thought you were cool when we first met, despite all the shit Kelli told me about you, but now, I'm starting to see her point." Mel said.
Kelli's mouth dropped open as if she wanted to say something in her defense, but I gave a wave of my hand to dismiss her. I focused my full attention on Mel.
"Yeah, man. You gon hafta tell us something." Eric said as he loomed over their table.
"Y'all still on that? Look, I told y'all - I don't know where Kenny is. I wish I could help y'all out on this one."
If I didn't know any better, I would have believed him. Mel has this way of appearing to be sincere and likable.
"Tell Trey that I'm sorry this happened."

Entry 77
Another day in LA and even with all of this gorgeous California sunshine, life is still gloomy as hell. Kenny is still missing, I'm really homesick, and Trey snapped at me a little while ago.
Ever since he got out of the hospital last night, he's been in a terrible mood. I don't blame him and I'm being as patient as I can with him. Kenny is like a brother to him, and I know Trey is beyond worried about him.
I've been trying to give him some hope that Kenny will be found alive and that soon this whole thing will be over with, but Trey is tired of hearing that. All everyone keeps saying is that things are going to turn out alright. Kenny's going to be okay.
Trey is frustrated because he blames himself for this mess. I tried to tell him that none of this is his fault, and that's when he snapped at me.
He told me that I didn't know what I was talking about and that I wasn't really helping to ease his mood.
Ordinarily, I would have snapped right back at him. Instead, I just bit my tongue and I left him alone in our room. I decided to take a long walk down on the beach. The happiness from all of the beach goers around me didn't help my mood either. I tried to block out everything else around me while I walked. My bodyguards strolled behind me like a mini entourage.
After a while, Charles asked me if I wanted to get something to eat. I figured I'd pick up something for Trey, too.
We left the beach and headed for a diner that was within walking distance. When we got there, I told them that I wanted to order to go, so we stood at the counter. Eric tapped my shoulder and told me to look across the room. Sitting in a booth, I saw Mel. He was sitting across from someone and they were having what looked like a heated conversation.
I saw a woman's hand bag hanging off of some one's shoulder and my immediate guess was that he was talking to Jasmine.
Without thinking, I just started walking towards them. As I got closer, I could hear a female voice. She was crying.

Jasmine said that she was tired of the games Trey was playing with her. She told him if he left that room, it was going to be the last time he saw her alive. Trey thought that she was just ranting, until the lunatic actually tried to jump out of the window. Trey said that he and Kenny had had to fight with Jasmine to keep her from jumping. He said that in all of the confusion, he hadn't seen what Mel was doing.
Trey said that his memory was kind of fuzzy at that point in the story, but the next thing he knew, Mel was standing there holding a gun.
He said that he could remember Jasmine telling him that it was going to be til death between them, for real.
Trey said that Kenny began to curse Mel out and he told Mel to put down the gun. Trey said that Mel must have been scared even while holding the gun, because he let Kenny back him down all the way into the hallway. Trey said as he started to go after them, he felt a sharp pain in his arm. He turned to yell at Jasmine, and as he did so, he heard a popping sound coming from the hallway.
Trey said the next thing he can fully remember is all of us in the hotel room right before they wheeled him out.
After the police checked the hotel where Mel had stayed, they had confirmation from the hotel clerk that Mel had been a guest there, and cameras confirmed that Trey, Kenny and Jasmine had been there too.
I didn't leave Trey's side, but I made sure that posters with Kenny's picture on them were made. I keep praying for Kenny. Trey is so angry because he can't help with the search effort. Miss April is doing her best to keep him calm.
Daddy has been helping, too. He hired a private investigator to look into Jasmine's and Mel's activities while they were in town.
"She had to have bought those drugs while they were out here. Once we find out who they know, we'll be able to find out what those people know." Daddy is very optimistic his team will be able to find out something.
They have to find him.
