Trey Songz and Drake have come together numerous times to work on hits for both the Virginia native's albums and the Toronto lyricist's mixtapes. But when exactly are the two going to make a joint project together? According to Trey Songz, a collaborative album between the two may not see the light of day anytime soon.
"Drake had to put his first album out first," Trey Songz explained to MTV News. "Thank Me Later has done amazing, and I'm proud of him for that album. We'll continue to work together and that [collaborative album] may not happen for years. But I think the thing with us, we continue to make music together and we do that organically. We're friends outside of music so making music for us is easy. It's all about when our career paths make the best sense to do that."
In the meantime, Trey Songz is promoting his recently released Passion, Pleasure & Pain and Drake is putting the final touches on his R&B mixtape, tentatively set for release next month. As a successful R&B singer who also raps, Trey Songz had some advice for his friend Drake, a rapper who also sings, regarding his project. He suggested the "Find Your Love" star keep track of which songs on the project are best to sing live.

Trey Songz and Drake have collaborated on numerous tracks, from their early "Replacement Girl" to the over-the-top "I Invented Sex." But their "Successful" probably best captures the two artists' rise to the forefront of their respective genres in the past two years. And the dynamic duo's latest collabo measures up to their typically high standards.
With just days until the release of Songz's fourth studio album, Passion, Pain & Pleasure, Trigger's "Unusual," featuring Drizzy, leaked to the Internet. The R&B star stopped by MTV News this week and spoke about the track.
"The 'usual' is whatever is expected," Songz said. " 'I know you're tired of the usual,' that's what the song is saying, 'I could give you more than the usual,' " he continued, reciting the song's chorus. "The 'unusual' is spoken about all through the record: That's rooftops. That's pool tables. That's car hoods. That's restaurant bathrooms — that's taking it beyond. That's spontaneity."
The duo teamed up once again with Drake producer Noah "40" Shebib (he also worked on "Successful"), who created a far more upbeat romp for "Unusual." Songz said he wanted take their previous success a step further.
"The thing with Drake and I is, after the last album having a record like 'Invented Sex,' which was such a powerful title and power collaboration for the both of us, I wanted to do something that took it to the next level, and I think this record does that," Songz said.

Singer Trey Songz, whose star rose this past year with the R&B chart-topping smash "I Invented Sex" and other hits, says he wants to continue building on his momentum with new material.
Songz is gearing up to release his new album "Passion, Pain and Pleasure" on Sept. 14. But until his release, he'll introduce some of the new album's songs during his upcoming concert tour, which kicks off Friday.
"It was something missing for me. I needed something more," Songz said in a recent interview. "No matter how much you love the songs. I need something new."
Four of his songs, including "Say Aah" and "Neighbors Know My Name," reached the top 10 on Billboard's R&B/Hip-Hop singles chart. His gold-selling album "Ready," which was released last year, helped him win BET's best male R&B artist this year.
But the 25-year-old Songz says he needs to produce more than one successful album to be considered in the same class as his idols — singers R. Kelly and Usher.
"This is a competition," he said. "No matter how much I look up to Usher and R. Kelly, it's something we all want to be the best at. But I can't control what they do. I have to outdo me."
Singer Keri Hilson isn't worried about Songz being just a "one-CD hit wonder," because of his strong vocal ability paired with his physical appeal to his increasing female fan base.
"He won women's hearts," Hilson said. "His music has always been great. But people are more aware of him now because of his sex appeal. That will help him move forward."

Trey Songz and Nicki Minaj recently dropped the rollicking, bass-heavy collaboration "Bottoms Up" and the stars wasted no time hitting the web to chat about how the duo hooked up. Hours after sites posted the song from Songz' upcoming Passion, Pain & Pleasure album, the singer spoke directly to fans on Tuesday from his Ustream page about the track. After conferencing in Minaj, who was at work in the studio, they broke down the whirlwind creation of the song.
"I'm in L.A. for BET [Awards] weekend, I'm working on a couple records, and I do this song called 'Red Lipstick,' and then I do 'Bottoms Up' the next day," Trey recalled of his recording session. "I hit Nicki and I'm like, 'Man, I've got these two incredible records, I think one of them is gonna be my first single, and I need you to do it. Can you come this weekend? Can you come down?'
"I stayed a couple extra days and she came through," he said. "Two, three days later I got a verse back that was just stupid." Songz then addressed the MC directly and said, "I fell in love with you. When I heard the verse, I was like, 'Oh my s---, I love her. She killed it.' "
Minaj chimed in and noted that fans had been waiting for the stars to team up. "Every day, people say, 'When you gonna collaborate with Trey?' For some strange reason they wanted to see that collaboration," Minaj said. "So, when you hit me, I was very excited. I just thought, 'This is our time.' "
