Essence.com: 'I'm Single, Working Hard And Having Fun'

Trey Songz is a busy man. At 26, he just began the nationwide BP3 Tour 2010 opening for Jay-Z, his third album "Ready" was just certified Gold exceeding sales of 500,000, and he just participated in the remake of the classic "We Are The World" benefiting Haitian earthquake relief. During a break on his touring schedule in Dallas, Songz chatted with ESSENCE.com about the messages in his music, what it's like to work with superstars like Jay, Stevie Wonder and Barbra Streisand, and why he's excited about performing at the ESSENCE Music Festival.

ESSENCE.com: Congratulations on going Gold, how do you feel about that?
SONGZ: I am proud. It's an achievement to say the least. It's my third album and it's the first one to go Gold. But I don't want to be stuck in that moment, I want to make sure that I strive to do whatever is next. I am excited that the album is doing very well, you know, but I'm chasing Platinum now.

ESSENCE.com: I hear that for sure, so talk to me about your music. It really resonates in the clubs and particularly with the ladies.
SONGZ: Musically, I want to make good music that people can feel. Music sets a tone like a soundtrack for your life. And, with the music I make, I know that I am making you laugh, making you feel sexy, making you wanna dance, make you wanna make love, whatever it is. I am trying to make good music that people can feel and people can relate to. The ladies just happen to relate to it a little more, and I appreciate that.

Trey again congratulations on all your deserved success. Please just like fellow fan Omi said please keep humble. I do see a more cocky change in you, and I'm not saying you can't have high self esteem. Like Omi said the world can suck you causing you to loose your identity. I've been a big big fan of your since "Trapped in the closet remake," and followed you ever since. 2 years ago I seen you perform and Nokia theater and we took a picture which I upload I treasure it dearly. I remember you calming me down because I was so nervous to meet you, and I am so grateful for you compassion. I don't want you to loose yourself, because you as an ARTIST should be a blueprint for many in the industry. God bless Trey and hopefully one day we can meet again. Good Luck, and sincere.

Trey congratulations and remember stay humble!!! I want to be very honest with you. Trey you have an amazing voice!!!!!however, the world can suck you in and and with so much lust and perversion you can get caught up in it. At the height of your success, you are liberty to have what you want if you know what I mean. Be careful and think before you act because if you give into anything, you can get yourself into serious consequences and at times there is no rewinding. I say all this with lots of LOVE!!!! Just saw Trey in concert last night in Greensboro...Lovin it! I had the worst seats and I still feel like he performed for me. Trey is a crowd pleaser and he makes music I definitly can follow. Very rare to find someone where you can relate to their music at any age. Change for no one Trey! You are a classic!
